We've had our share of positive business reviews over the years with the parent company of The MCA University, Mom and Pop Merchant Solutions DBA Mom and Pop Business Funding. ...and we've had our share of negative business reviews. My partner Ashley Aldridge was there for me when we received our 1st poor review, it was as though someone had hit my child and I couldn't do anything about it! Ash laughed and assured me that it's good for business, and it's taken me years to get use to what he said that day. I'm NOT by any stretch of the imagination an insecure man, so it is shocking looking back at it how personally I took that first bad business review, and it's actually every bit as shocking looking back at it how elated I was after we received our 1st 5 Star business review.
Many business owners ROOT for their business, I know, I'm one of them. There isn't a moment that goes by where the business and it's well being aren't on my mind. There is book that made the New York Times best seller list called Built to Last : Successful Habits of Visionary Companies and it's a book written by Jim Collins and Jerry I. Porras that outlines the results of a six-year research project exploring what leads to enduringly great companies. After reading this book for the first time I understood the empathy and sympathy associated with being a CEO and and owner of a business, especially for those of us that are founders. When the business does good, WE do good, and when the business does bad, well..., we're right there too.
Most of our business reviews are good these days, in fact, outstanding as a matter of fact at a 5 Star level, but it still STABS me in the gut when we receive a bad review. ...and I have to knowingly remind myself that it's not my insecurities that are making me feel that was and respond accordingly, it's the fact that I care so much about our baby.
The MCA University is standing on it's own two feet now, separate from Mom and Pop Merchant Solutions DBA Mom and Pop Business Funding, and I'm sure it will take it's share of bumps and grinds, but in the end, we are built to last, with a strong foundation, and we will stand the test of time.
